Speaking Chinese

I really don't get my feathers ruffled that often. If I do, I try to keep it inside.

I also know shit happens and somethings just can't be helped.

Just don't lie to me about it. The lying gets under my skin more than the actual situation that is being lied about.

So I had an "experience" at my local dry cleaners. I left the following review on their site.

I dropped a black blazer off for cleaning. It smelled of perfume and had a small make-up stain by the collar on it.

When I came to pick it up, they said they didn't clean it because there was a hole in the sleeve up by the shoulder. They showed me a hole, that was NOT there before. It looked like it was snagged on something. The hole was the size of a pencil eraser. They insisted there was no way they could put a hole in it because they never touched it.

But ... this blazer HAD been cleaned and pressed! I pointed that out to them, no smell, no mak
e-up stain, totally cleaned and pressed with the exception of a hole in it.

They still insisted they never cleaned it and that the hole was there when I dropped it off.

They cleaned it. They pressed it. And they put a hole in it. What can I do?

Nothing ... except warn you that they lied to me. I probably would have been less mad if they would have just said sorry, we had an accident with your blazer. I had 2 other items cleaned that I was picking up. I paid for them (they never even offered a discount to try to smooth things over) left, and I will never use them again.

So yeah, there is nothing that can be done. She was a mean person, that was not going to back down. You know when you know someone is lying and they have you at an advantage? Well, that was her. She gave me the stink eye and stood firm.

I'm not proud of the fact that as I picked up my items off the counter, I looked her right in the [stink] eye and said "fuck you". But it did make me feel better.

I even justified it later by thinking it may translate into something less offensive in Chinese. No?

If you live in my area... do not go to this dry cleaner:

I've had similar experiences with dry cleaners. Basically, it's your word against theirs.

The good thing about dry cleaners? I live in a relatively small town. One small shopping area, and another even small strip mall about a mile away from that. Probably 25 stores in the entire town. And 5 of them are dry cleaners. I kid you not.

So the good thing? There's always another ready to put a hole in your blazer. Fuck her, was right.

Reminds me of episodes on both Seinfeld & Curb Your Enthusiasm about dry cleaners. I think the owners were wearing the clothes.

The dry cleaner has a website? Well, cool, the second thing -- besides the Fuck You (I love that) -- to make you feel better...

The very next time Bossy goes on a 10,000 mile road trip that last 35 days, she is *definitely not* going to that Dry Cleaners in Michigan.

I used to work for a very successful cleaner in high school and the reason they were so popular was their integrity. They always owned up to damaged garments, and if a garment did come in already damaged, we were required to make a note of it in the customer's presence. That just sucks!

I'm with you---I hate being lied to, too, especially when THEY know that YOU know they're lying. Why do people (or companies, or politicians) feel the need to do that?

Dry cleaners suck. That's why I use Mr. Hot and Dryel. ;-)

I am not sure, but I think that "Fuck You" translates to "It is going to rain" in Chinese. Which may have really confused the bitch.

Two things are at play here (amoung other possibilities). In hard economic times, profit margins are bound to be low, so every cleaned item probably needs to be accounted for. Freebies or discounts are'nt likely thanks to Wall Street.

Secondly, the standard in this country is to deny guilt and force your accuser to prove you wrong. Honesty used to be a virtue, but not anymore. Recall the recent news story of the Laundry that got suied by a judge for something like $300,000 for ruining his suit? That sort of thing has reprocussions in an industry and you may have been on the receiving end of it here.

Regardless, it still sucks...and I would have said the same thing on the way out the door....."I think it is going to rain."...in Chinese.

I would have thought it, but I wouldn't have had the guts to say it.

I don't blame you for being upset. That is ridiculous!

It really doesn't matter if you showed your behind as well...your not going back there anyway! :)

Yay, you, for blogging about them. I always say, "don't piss off a blogger...."

I'm with you on the lying: I have much more respect for someone with the balls to tell me the bad news, than someone that lies to me. Nuh uh.
