Best Part of a 3 Day Weekend ...

... the following week is only a four day work week.

Update in bullets (and a bunch of photos):

(As always, for you Sunshine, a fan of bullets.)

  • Ree (you Hotfessional) and I are excited about BlogHer coming up. She and I are sharing a room and that's about all we'll say. What happens in Chicago stays in Chicago. (Unless it can fit in a carry-on. )
  • My Memorial Day weekend ... no surprise here.

Don was the only one to catch a walleye all weekend.

I really DO fish, that's my rod.

"Hey Don, take a picture of me fishing for my blog please."

Mmhumm, I fish in the blur.
(Yes jeans from head to toe, it was a cool crisp morning.)

Don fishes and naps, such a multi-tasker.

End of this week, beginning of the 3 Day!

Ben had surgery yesterday. He had a growth removed from his hind leg. He's supposed to wear a "cone" for 14 days ... NOT gonna happen. Bryan got a "dog sitter" to keep an eye on him while he's at work. (NO, he's not on my couch, he's on his couch in the basement)

*note: Quinn watching over his baby brother.
Brave of Quinn to sleep at Ben's ASS!

******************************

Last evening, Don and I went fishing ... again. Got into a fight with "something" and only one of us were going to win. I should have let this stinky, slimy, thing win ... lucky for him, he got tossed back in.

******************************

And this soldier in the news? Did you see this? Read about it here.

Talk about having your fellow soldiers back ... Army Specialist Zachery Boyd jumped out of bed, put on his flip-flops, sporting his pink "I Love NY" boxers and answered the call of duty in Afghanistan. U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates wants to meet him and shake his hand. So do I.

Have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend.

God Bless America!

ZORI

Zori?

NOW what is Nancy talking about?!!

Debbie (lives in Japan), at Etc., Etc.,Etc. had a contest to win a pair.

Zori are hand-made cloth slippers made from old kimono's scraps.

She explained they are quite uncomfortable at first, but as they are worn and washed, they conform to your feet and feel won.der.ful.

She is right, they are un.com.for.table !

But, I'm going to wear them and wash them and probably get so attached to them you'll see me wearing them to work!

She also enclosed a lovely note with sentiments that only a kindred sister share.

Look at his Goddess doll she MADE!

The denim is from her jeans, buttons from her bracelet, and a reminder of the Goddess in each of us. Straight from the heart and something I will always cherish. Thank you Debbie for my "Boot Scootin' Goddess"

Internet friends are amazing ... even from thousands of miles away!

I know what you're saying ... "Again?"

Yep, I'm thinking of renaming my blog:

"Marie Millard Does Lake St. Clair"

(Dallas was already taken)

Any-whoooooooooooooooo ...

Here's a Saturday evening, just before sunset, just after a BBQ with friends, just slightly buzzed, just before dessert, just before getting really buzzed, just before passing out buzzed .... cruise through the canals!

Two Captains, Dennis and Don.
(mmm-hummm, no pain here)

The two first mates ... wait ... where is our photo?
We were up front manning the camera and cooler.

The pissed off that we made him move tour guide as we headed out.

The infamous, often quoted, hard to read,
carved just above the opening, motto:

"You Can't Beat Fun"

The beautiful (kinda cold, ty vodka for the warmth) sunset.

Coming back through the canals ... the 4 legged Captain of his boat!

(see him just off the back)

I'm looking forward to a fun summer.
Won't be responsible for what gets posted here *wink*

"What becomes of the broken hearted..."

"...who had love that's now departed?"*

Remember my sad love story this past winter?

He lost his mate.
She got hit by a car.
He pined for days.

I kept getting all choked up when I saw him wait endlessly for her.

Happily, he's got spring fever and a new mate.

It appears she's mended his broken heart.

They've been strutting (and pooping) all over the front lawn of where I work.
But, please Casanova, stop taking your lady so close to the road.

Did you not learn anything?

Lake St. Clair, Fishing

As I've said before, in my second life, I'm going to be a Mermaid. I love being on the water. I can't wait for the hot days of summer so I can just dive right in.

I'm learning about boating and the proper verbiage. Karin? With your husband being a boat broker, I'm sure you understand why Don is correcting me. [wink]

Okay, so we got into his boat and I reached over to undo the "ropes" ... by the time we came back to the dock, I was tying the "lines."

We headed out to Lake St. Clair. This is the "street" Don's house is on ... make that the "canal" he lives on.

I got to steer pilot the boat, and after a few drunken looking moves, I was able to keep it straight.

We were fishing for perch or walleye but kept catching big ass bass and blue gill.

Yes, I baited my hook, but only after Don showed me how to bait a double hook. That doesn't bother me, I just think I am "piercing" the worm ... maybe to add earrings later.

(Keep thinking that Nancy so it doesn't gross you out too much.)

Don threw his line in and less than 30 seconds, he had this. Go D! (Too bad it was a bass.) Remember he did that a few months ago ice fishing?

We caught about a dozen bass and blue gill, but never saw a walleye.

I had a great day. Sun was shining, sky's were blue, vodka ice tea was flowing and I have a great fishing partner!

::: Blowing Dust off Blog:::

I think Ree is feeling sorry for this abandoned blog. She's having me blow the dust off and do this meme that's been going around. Thanks Ree ... I think!

The latest meme making the rounds goes like this:

Heeeeerrrr's Johnny!

Guess who I sat next to at the MGM Casino this weekend?

Well, for sure it wasn't him:

Or Him:

Which reminds me of him saying heeeerrr's Johnny in the Shining.
(Yes, his real name is John)

It was him:

Who?

Yeah, I said that too.

How about a clue:

Nope, I still didn't know him either.

After a few fans came up to him and I overheard his name, I got it.

Jhonny Peralta, short stop for the Cleveland Indians.

I still didn't know who he was though.

I do know he was a nice guy sitting by me playing roulette, who spells Jhonny a bit different.

All three Mikes are Winners but ....

I've written about my brother Mike, and linked many times to his son, my nephew, Michael (Captain Obvious). My sister San, who isn't a blogger but leaves her hilarious comments peppered throughout the blog-o-sphere, also has a son named Mike.

Back it up, I have a brother Mike, and two nephews named Mike. I really wanted to name my son Mike, but his father had no sense of humor when it came to naming his only son.

Anyway, all that info has nothing to do with my post to follow, but for my regular nothing good on TV, I'll read Marie Millard readers, the Mike issue can get confusing.

Actually, we refer to them as Mike, (brother) Michael, (San's son, oldest nephew) and Mikie (lol, sorry Captain Obvious) within the family just to keep them straight.

OK, so this post is really about nephew #1 Michael. Mr. Texas Hold'em.

He plays almost every night on occasion and is pretty good lucky.

Last night he was in a tournament, winner gets a flight to Las Vegas at the end of the month, 4 nights at the Rio and ::: drum roll please ::: a seat at the 40th Annual World Series of Poker, no limit Texas Hold'em ... including entry $$$.

He won it!

I hope my June 1st post will be all about his winnings!

Actually, he IS my favorite nephew, being the first born and all.

If he doesn't win the final hand, he'll go back to being one of my 4 favorite nephews *wink*
