It Hat to Happen

Aretha's hat was a mandatory topic for late night comics, bloggers, and the news media but, it was also a hit with some serious fashion plates.

Detroit's own Luke Song is the designer and now famous maker of her hat. Mr. Song's Millinery is located in downtown Detroit.

I've never heard of his store but, I'm not a hat wearer. He states his designs are mostly for African-American church going women. Aretha has been a long time client of his.

Mr. Song has already taken hundreds of calls for orders, for this hat, from all over the world. At $179.00 each, I'd say he's found his "pet rock".

Of course the Internet picked up on it instantly. There are Flickr groups for you to submit your photoshopped picture of pets and people wearing the hat. Check out Fightin' Mad Mary's dog Day-Z rockin' the hat.

So, as I said in yesterday's post, I don't like the hat, but there seems to be many that do. Hats off to you Aretha, Queen of Soul, and now hats!

( I Obamiconed her and her hat ... go Obmicon yourself)

I'm not a hat person either, but, Aretha made this hat rock!!

I wasn't impressed with her music that day, but it was freezing and I'm sure that impacts the vocal chords. But no matter, Aretha, hat or no hat, ROCKS!!

I loved that hat; I thought it quite queenie and appropriate for such a grand affair.

I feel bad that everyone's picking on the "My. c(o)unt. tree. tis. of. thee" beginning of her song though. Went over my head, but the radio stations here can't leave it alone.

GnG: I said on yesterdays post ... I caught it right away. I would have preferred a different place to break the syllables, lol

I really sort of liked the hat. I mean, when you know you're going to be on tv and only your face is going to show, why not? And only she can pull that hat off. She's a big lady, she needs a big had. Go Aretha!

Nancy!!! So funny. I'm tempted to rip a photo off your blog and dress you up in the hat too.

I have seen Aretha in some pretty inappropriate outfits for her size and shape and was curious as to what she would wear for the inauguration. I was pleasantly surprised and thought she looked elegant. I loved the hat. The color of her outfit kept it RESPECTful (pun intended)

We can all look forward to getting to a certain age where you can wear what you like and not have a care in the world.

I thought she looked every bit the star that she is. It was funky and fun loving.

Only Aretha could get away with that hat. I can't even get away with wearing Yellow.

I am not into hats either. I do think she can pull it off though.
