Smart Car, Dumb Joke

Yesterday, Sandi and I were at a stop light and a Smart Car went by. It was the first one either of us have seen.

Sandi: Look at that car, look how small it is.

Me: Not much of a comfort factor.

Sandi: Just think if you got hit in one of those.

Me: Oh, I'm sure they have body bags on the doors, dash, and in the back.

Sandi: You mean air bags.

Me: No, I mean body bags ... you'd never come out alive.

They also have a convertible smart car. I think the car is cute, but it hasn't had good reviews at all. Like you, I would not want to get hit in it by a Big SUV.

There are quite a few of these around here -- my neighbour has one. It's got to be one of the "dumbest" cars I've ever seen and the guy who drives it is a "big" man -- you have no idea how foolish he looks.

Touche on the body bag.....

I know! They're sooooo small and scary.

I wouldn't get in one unless they've banned SUVs. I think a Hummer would run one over and never notice.

I'm afraid Sandi might be right.

I get claustrophobic just looking at one of those things. Why does a scooter seem safer?

Hahahaha. You're funny Nancy Marie. : )

That thing is so small they could use condoms for air bags. It would be better just to have an ejection seat. Get out quickly there may be nothing left after a crash. With all the semi-trucks out there on the road driving one of these can't be too smart. I will stick to my little Honda that gets 42 mpg.

Aha! The Smart Car. Not recommended for trips to the mall. I'd lose it in the parking lot and even if found, it would never hold my packages.

Some of had a thing for the SmartCar when it first came out, but I think we need to focus on fuel efficiency, hybrid, solar, electric, hydrogen cars that are big enough to bring home our groceries.

haha my thoughts exactly, those cars don't make any sense here. in europe with small narrow streets, yes? her with wide streets, ginormous cars? negative. oy.

I know one guy who has a smart guy. He's a rather large man so it's funny seeing him driving it.

They're HUGE in Europe...with fuel and parking at a premium, I saw them everywhere over there. I've seen quite a few on the road here already, too.

Personally...if I thought I could get my 2 boys and the groceries in it, I would buy one!! here in nagasaki, there are a few tooling around...with gas prices running, on average, about$6 a gallon and parking very hard to find, it would work for someone like me who would just drive it around town going to teaching jobs!!
Mitsubishi actually has a car that is the same design, just a bit bigger...4 doors, room for 4...very cute! I keep telling my hub that THAT is the car I need!!!

Smart....indeed! (hee-hee)

I think they're freaky looking. I'd like to try driving one though. I wonder if they take off like a shot because they're so little???

Your right Nancy a 'body bag' would be in order, easier clean up for the 1st repsonders, actually in the event of a collision it could also double as a coffin to be buried in.... Intersting, fuel economy is thot of during fuel (calculated) shortages, they couldn't have produced hybrids 20 yrs. ago? Jist another 'cows out of the barn fix it' (I call them), kinda like a wing falls off a major airline plane then they ALL get a mandated inspection! OYEESH...

I just saw one the other day. It sounds like a great idea if you live in the city. I wouldn't take it out on the interstate though.

But there's a bigger problem--for a car that small, it costs a lot of money plus the gas mileage is not that great. Who wants to pay $14,000 for a toy car that gets, what, 40 mpg average? Why not just buy a regular subcompact car?
