Barbie, I Still Like This Girl

It started with this:

I saw the 35th Anniversary Barbie set and remembered my long lost, played with Barbies and the many clothes and accessories I had for her. And so it began. Over 10 years of collecting.

It grew to over ??? I don't know how many. Every time I tried to count and inventory them, I'd get messed up, more so with the bottle of wine it usually took to attempt the task.

A few years ago, I decided to start selling some of my collection. I sold, and sold, and sold some more. I've shipped these babes to every country in the world except the mid-east and Russia.

This past weekend, I moved them to Caitlin's old bedroom and sorted them. There are some I will never part with but my intention is to start selling again. I still have some more I need to separate and sort, but I need to get a couple more shelves brought up from the basement.

I have boxes of vintage outfits and a couple vintage dolls that I don't display since they are out of their boxes. I have just about every Hallmark Barbie ornament and a pink Barbie Christmas tree, and everything else Barbie you can imagine. Thanks to my fellow collector Debbie, I even have Barbie martini glasses.

*some shelves have dolls 2 and 3 deep!

Wow! A Barbie Bonanza!!

One Christmas I begged for a Barbie. My mother tried to talk me into some other kind of doll, but it had to be Barbie!! I played with Barbie and all her pals for years!

I have no idea what became of my Barbie & Ken, but I think my mother probably gave them away when I left for college. I had the one with the black & white striped bathing suit. I also had the little high heels, which invariably would get chewed up by the dog.

I used to take socks, cut the feet out, and make dresses for Barbie.

Such good memories!

That is all. : )

It's sad. Girls don't play with Barbies like we use to. I had the camper, airplane, apartment, and a kitchen and maybe 6 dolls - not anywhere close to your collection.

oooh! I love Barbies! I have a few collectibles. A very few compared to yours, though! I loved the Elvis series that came out. :)

Joan: The camper, airplane, and apartment are worth quite a bit today, but not as much as our memories of playing with them.

I bet you'll be able to make a fortune.

Dang!!! That's alot of Barbies! I LOVED Barbie! When my daughter was little, we'd play for hours! I once sold my car for $250 to get her a Barbie house for Christmas...ya, those were the good old days....making clothes, and furniture, and making up stories. Our blond Barbie was always the slut, and the brunette Barbie was the Good One! ;)

You inspired me to start collecting Barbies about eight years ago. When my daughter was little I loved playing Barbie's with her since I never had a Barbie when I was growing up. Good luck on your sales effort.

Nancy, you know I love you but frankly, you need a man. Sorry, I'm soken for or I'd speak up, but honey, no really, nobody has that many Barbies. How did you do that???

LOL @ Ron :)

Ron: I'm on the short side of Barbie collectors ... and there are several well known men that have collections far exceeding anything I could ever reach. Does it help I have a few Ken's on those shelves? =)
