~*~ Yang Peiyi, I think you are beautiful ~*~

So they faked the fireworks, no biggie ... all for a grand illusion.

The female gymnastic girls may be under age, well ... who can prove it?

But the little girl, with a beautiful voice, with an innocent face ... what?
Not cute enough? Says WHO?

Lin Miaoke and Yang Peiyi

Seven year old Yang Peiyi was to be heard, but not seen.
Instead, Lin Miaoke was lip syncing to the voice of Yang.

It was decided Lin Miaoke had more "the look" China wanted represented.
I'd like to see, face to face, the person that made this ignorant decision.

Get out! Although I shouldn't be surprised since it is China. I'm with you, she's beautiful.

I sit here thinking, what if I had to explain to Sammie that some random person thought she wasn't good enough to represent America because of her chubby cheeks and crooked teeth? Talk about a self image problem waiting to happen. I hope her parents made something else up, how awful to feel second best with the whole world knowing.

My husband and I were talking about how we thought the little girl was lip syncing as we were watching it...it just didn't look right...maybe they did it because she would be nervous...Never did we think that the "real" little girl wasn't cute enough! Sure, the "singer" was cute, but....still...none of it is very pretty to me anymore...and it's all starting to lose some of it's magic.

How very sad. But then again it's China.

I heard about this on the radio and it surprised me, but seeing it laid out like you do on this post just makes me mad. China has always had a problem with their little girls, and now they are going one step further and picking ones over the other for their looks? Come on. Glad the story came out though. Wonder if Yang's parents were behind that? :o)

I heard about this yesterday and saw more on it on the Today show. It's so sad that they felt that they couldn't use what in my opinion is a very adorable little girl in favor of one that is "cute". It sends out SO many wrong messages. I really hate it for that little girl. And her comment that she was just proud to have been able to have her voice used is heartbreaking.

That is very, very sad.

China isn't use to our investigative reporting. I wonder if they are at loss about what to do at the closing ceremony?

I have followed a total of "zero" in this Olymics. I'm not impressed with any of it. Sorry, I'm just not. And then you read this and that and the other thing that is slipping out and I think "right, I knew I wasn't missing anything". Athletic ability or not...any country that is ashamed of how someone "looks" and wants something better? Shame isn't strong enough to describe that.

I think the original girl was cuter but this all doesn't surprise me about China.

A number of years ago the company I used to work with did some major cutbacks. There were people in China who got laid off. Some of these people would show up to work every day in their suits and with their briefcases and would stand out in front of the office where they used to work. This wasn't to protest it was because they were ashamed to tell their families that they were failures because they had been fired. People boast about how smart Chinese kids are but I ask you, what are they raising? This was a really sad story.

This incident isn't funny at all, but John Stewart quipped last night, "what kind of complex do you think this child is going to have when your GOVERNMENT gets together and decides that you are not cute?"

John said...

Ooops! I believe that's "Jon" Stewart.

Brain fart.

while I know it shouldn't come as a surprise, since this IS China...but still.....the "original" is much, much cuter, I think.
