My baby girl had a baby girl.
Mariah was born this past January. I was so thankful that Mariah's parents let me take part in the birthing experience. I didn't see either of my kids actual birth. *I was there, just not there.*
What an awesome gift. Seeing a baby born for the first time. Being with my baby as she gives birth. Being there the moment my first grandchild is born. Instant, pure love.
Mariah is almost two months old and I'm reminded daily of how infants change. Caitlin and Ray are naturals with their parenting skills. I'm so proud of them both.
Shortly after Mariah was born, and Caitlin was all bliss with motherhood, she sent me a text:
"I'm so glad you weren't a cool mother"
That text was a reward and a reminder that in all my mothering errors, I did something right. Our mom /daughter fights, as Caitlin was growing up, usually ended with her shouting at me,
"Why aren't you a cool mom like my friends mothers? They're allowed to do what ever they want! Their moms are like girlfriends"
My reply was always, "Because I love you Caitlin, it's my job to be your mom, not your girlfriend."
When she looks at her little baby girl, she knows she is her mom, not her girlfriend.
I sent Caitlin a text today asking how Mariah was. They were watching Dora. I asked her to text me a photo and she sent me this of Mariah watching Dora.
A few minutes later, she sent me another text titled "My Other Baby."
Caitlin has the mom thing down. She's figured out how to handle Lola when she doesn't have time to take her outside!
*All my posts about Caitlin have always been tagged Conversation Hearts. It warms my heart to write this one when I thing back at the humorous posts, these past few years, on the trials & tribulations of Caitlin.

I Forgot to Take Christmas Pictures
Caitlin and Lola
and with Ray

Christmas Day was relaxing and laid back. As we do every year, we gathered at my sister Sandi's house. This year, there were a few from our tribe that were missed.
My mom and step-dad are smart enough to have stayed in Florida. My niece and her family (the only little ones) are arriving today for a New Year visit. Allison (another niece) was with her boyfriend and his family. My son Bryan, went to his fathers early, then met up with a girl wasn't feeling well.
When I unloaded my camera, I realized I never took one picture on Christmas Day. Caitlin, her boyfriend Ray, and Lola were over Christmas Eve. These shot's are the only thing I have to represent Christmas 2008. Quinn and Bryan didn't even get in any. I am a bad mom.
One guess who wins out every time.

Caitlin being camera shy.

Actually, I have about 20 photos of these two, acting goofy and making faces, but I'm sure they'd rather I not post them.
I'm going out celebrating New Year's Eve. I'll take my camera in hopes that I'll make a better effort to capture some memories.

Conversation Hearts : L-O-L-A ... Lola
*Conversation Hearts is the tag I have used when recalling my conversations with my daughter Caitlin.
Since she moved out, almost a year ago, the fodder for some of my favorite, hilarious, and head-scratching moments have lessen. This may be a good thing. At least as far as my gray hair and furrow lines are concerned.
So here we go.
Cait: OMG, I just saw the cutest puppy at the pet shop across from the salon.
Me: NO!
Cait: She won't get more than 6 lbs.
Me: NO! Remember Jenny? She pissed all over and you had to give her back.
Cait: She's purebred, even has papers.
Me: NO! What about Puma? You never even got him fixed**
Cait: Michell (her boss) said I can bring her to the salon every day.
Me: The expense, the responsibility, the fact you still live in an apartment.
Cait: Umm, okay, I figured you'd say all that.

I teased them last night, just because Ray is Mexican, they didn't have to get a Taco Bell dog!

**This morning Cait dropped Puma off at the vet to get him fixed.
