Once Christmas day is over, I don't like my tree up or anything seasonal around. Drives me crazy.
I came home from work yesterday and dug in. All is taken down, packed away, vacuumed up and nary a sign of Christmas in my house.
When my kids were small, I wasn't this fast at taking things down, I waited until New Years day. By bedtime though, it was all put away.
Now this doesn't mean my house is in order. I started tearing it apart to paint. Everything. The hallway, living room, dining room, kitchen, and the stairway to the basement. And all the trim. The whole house is 1990's neutral with stained trim. I'll take before and after photos.
I had hoped to sell it this past spring, (fat chance, this market and Michigan ... a double whammy) but since I will probably have to hang in here for a couple years, I decided to paint colors. Oh man, do I have some colors picked out too.
I've never lived in a house long enough to redecorate. I have been flipping houses the past 10 years, so by the time it needs repainting, I am out of there. I hope this is more fun that frustrating. I don't paint, so my son is going to be doing it all.
Me paint? It's like Lucy and Ethel all rolled in one, paint from head to toe and on everything but the walls.

There are so many fab paint colors around these days! But who dreams up the names!
I feel the same way about post Christmas decorations. I'd love to have it all put up Dec. 26 but that didn't happen. My goal is this weekend.
Me too. I can't wait to put Christmas away. Clean slate time.
It's so funny that you are on to colors. I was sitting down yesterday staring at my walls and imagining them in color...I long for color. We are on the list for a four bedroom house though and I know if I paint now, they'll have one and I'll have to paint it all back over.
I am so excited for you though. Post lots of before and afters so I can live through you a little!
First of all, I'm loving the photo of you with your great-niece...you look so "natch" with a baby in your arms!!
I still put Christmas away on New Year's Day...my boys are still wrapped up in tradition to some degree, not that they will help pack it up but if I attempt anything before "the time" they squawk. So New Year's Day it will be for me.
We are on the same wavelength...I bought paint last night and I've started stripping the wallpaper in youngest son's "old" room (he moved into older brother's room when he left for Uni in the fall) and will be making that into my studio. I'm also painting oldest son's "Old" room for youngest son. And the studio will be a guest bedroom as well for when oldest is home for summer.
Can't wait to get this done!!! Fresh start for the new year!!
I love to paint....it's very relaxing for me!
Sherry: Good for you making a studio for yourself.
If you need further "relaxing" please come visit me, I have lot's of painting, errr, I mean relaxing going on at my house =)
lol. i agree about the christmas decorations. after awhile i feel like they're closing in on me!
i can't wait to see the colors you've picked out! happy paiting (well, not to you, but to your son!) :o)
I'm putting all of the Christmas stuff away tonight & tomorrow. That way, you'll be able to send your son over to paint my house, too!
I'm done with painting for a little while. We just did the living room and hall about a month ago.
I would like to leave my Xmas stuff up unitl New Years because we're having some people over and it looks so festive, but the tree is dying "fast" and wont make it that long. Too bad. It will probable come down this weekend
Can't wait to see the photos.
Happy New Year Nancy
I've done a lot of painting this month and I still have three rooms to go. I was hoping to get it all done before we moved in, but time wasn't on my side. It's coming together though. Slowly. ;)
my stuff was all taken down yesterday; I also can't stand the clutter and stuff, so away it goes! We are going to get some of the house painted this coming week or so; color picking time. yeah (that's sarcasm, not my favorite thing to do - blech).
Nice work on getting Christmas boxed up. I did so very little decorating (one of the pluses of being a guy ... nobody expects you to decorate) that I'll be able to have it all packed up in about 10 minutes. My new tree folds up onto itself and goes into a small box. (It is also pre-lit and pre-decorated.)
I'm in a rental, but allowed to paint anyway I want to and it needs it. I can't stand all blah walls. I have little color selection tabs stuck all over to pick colors. I look forward to seeing your home's transformation. Gives me fire to get on with mine.
Nancy, I'd love to rel..I mean Paint at your house...you be Lucy and I'll be Ethel....
So, what colours do you have picked out? I ask because I'm planning to paint in the next few months and want to go kind of crazy this time. :)
I understand your need to put Christmas away. I'm feeling a little itchy over here to do the same. Maybe tomorrow. The idea of going color mad with your walls sets my heart aflutter...have fun!
you know what? Paint just does something for me...I love the smell, and it can change a room so drastically that I feel like I might be in a new house....then I go to my kitchen and realize...no, I'm in the same 'ole dump!
Do you enjoy flipping houses? Now I'm gonna think of you everytime I watch that show!!!
My decorations are put away as well! It is all fun and games to put them out....but taking down is NEVER FUN!
Good luck with the painting....I think that is against my religion...OR IT SHOULD BE! :)
Where did you go??? Did you start painting and paint yourself into the damn corner?!?!?!?! LOL!!!
Just popped in to wish you a very happy new year. Meeting you in '07 has been a highlight in my year and I look forward to further adventures as the next year unfolds.
Wishing you health, happiness, joy, love and someone to come and paint your house!!!!
xo
Sherry
We just put up the tree on the day before Christmas eve (long story...) and only put up the lights, a Santa hat on top and 1 ornament--a German-made blue Santa. We'll probably take it down tomorrow and then get ready for our annual Christmas tree bonfire.
We painted the family room a wonderful color called Dried tomato (I think). The living room is painted straw. The bathroom is next.....
I can't wait to see your progress!!
Happy New Year!
Bossy doesn't like change so she resents putting the tree up - having to put tables and lamps into the basement to make room - but once its up she resents having to take it down and bring dusty tables and lamps up from the basement. No winning. Just ask Bossy's husband.
