Michigan = Fishing = 12 Months

We fished all last spring, summer, and fall on this beautiful lake.

Don has been out there ice fishing for the past few weeks. He's been having fun catching an average 75 perch each time out. Okay, so most of them aren't keepers ... but the fun of the sport is still enjoyed.

Most of you know how I dislike cold, damp winters, so ice fishing wasn't ever on my radar. With Don's daily fishing reports, I kept getting the urge to get out and fish.

Saturday, I put on my jeans, a t-shirt, sweater, hoodie, hat, scarf, 3 pairs of socks, Don's ski pants, Don's ski jacket, 3 pairs of gloves ... and we headed out.

I could weigh anywhere from 100-200 lbs.,
who'd know the difference in this get-up?

The lake just doesn't look the same with shanties, four-wheelers, and snowmobiles.

(click on pics to see all these shanties!)

We moved from hole to hole [insert smirk here] and after a couple hours, I caught this one perch. Nancy 1 Don zero.

I guess it wasn't our day to fish or after Don's daily catches, they fear him. ;)

Busy or Lazy?

Probably a toss up ... equally ... both.

And...

I have blogstipation.

Summer is over, fish fodder, lake photos, and writing about summer fun has ended. Actually, fishing has come to a temporary halt. Temporary meaning, I'll be fishing next week in Cabo wooooo-hoooo.

Yesterday, Don took the fishing boat out of the water ice. See the metal walls in the canal? As she cut through the ice, the sound echoed a farewell to summer down the canal and out into the lake.

**********
Tuesday morning my sister Sandi and her husband Gary, Don and I, leave for a week in Cabo San Lucas. None of us have been there before. I've heard great stories about Cabo, and we are all looking forward to the warm weather. I'll write more as we experience it.

And then, once we're back, I may realize that Christmas is thisclose and I don't have a decoration up or a present bought. I think that's where the lazy part comes in.

I'm busy being lazy.

Lake St. Clair, Fishing

As I've said before, in my second life, I'm going to be a Mermaid. I love being on the water. I can't wait for the hot days of summer so I can just dive right in.

I'm learning about boating and the proper verbiage. Karin? With your husband being a boat broker, I'm sure you understand why Don is correcting me. [wink]

Okay, so we got into his boat and I reached over to undo the "ropes" ... by the time we came back to the dock, I was tying the "lines."

We headed out to Lake St. Clair. This is the "street" Don's house is on ... make that the "canal" he lives on.

I got to steer pilot the boat, and after a few drunken looking moves, I was able to keep it straight.

We were fishing for perch or walleye but kept catching big ass bass and blue gill.

Yes, I baited my hook, but only after Don showed me how to bait a double hook. That doesn't bother me, I just think I am "piercing" the worm ... maybe to add earrings later.

(Keep thinking that Nancy so it doesn't gross you out too much.)

Don threw his line in and less than 30 seconds, he had this. Go D! (Too bad it was a bass.) Remember he did that a few months ago ice fishing?

We caught about a dozen bass and blue gill, but never saw a walleye.

I had a great day. Sun was shining, sky's were blue, vodka ice tea was flowing and I have a great fishing partner!

Fresh Fish (and fingers) Flash Frozen

Anyone who knows me knows I am so not a fan of winter, cold, ice, or anything that requires layering of clothing to keep warm. Yesterday, was an exception.

Don lives on the waters edge.
So why would I want to miss the opportunity to "walk on water".
[ba-da-boom, sorry Jesus, lame, I know]

We walked out onto Lake St. Clair yesterday to see if any of the ice fishermen were catching anything. The poll showed, not much. Some had been out hours with nothing to report as far as having any luck.

We found an abandoned hole and Don dropped a line in.

Less than 5 minutes he had this little critter.
In the 15 degree temperature,
it wasn't long that this was what I'd call fresh frozen fish.
[Don dropped it into a nearby fisherman's bucket]

The clear skies were a beautiful blue and the sun was bursting.

See that tiny tiny spec of a building on the horizon?

That's the Renaissance Center, downtown Detroit.

Only my thumbs were frozen, (?) yes, I'm weird.
That's the only part that got cold on me.

As we were walking back to his house, I asked what street we were on. He looked over [must have forgotten I'm blond] and said, you mean what canal? Duh, I forgot we were still "walking in water."

Don's back out doing some real fishing this afternoon. Me? I think I'm doing better sitting here with a steaming hot cup of coffee.

P.S. Oh yeah, my legs are that long!
