Ben on the Mend

After Bently had his surgery ( yes, that's how his name is spelled, unlike the Bentley automobile), his only goal in life was to lick those stitches until they were removed.

Bryan decided Ben needed a dog sitter while we were at work. His good friend Cathleen has "dog-sat" for Ben on other occasions. Like ... the first couple months of his life because I had told Bryan NO DOGS! He brought Ben home, I made it clear ... NO DOGS. Yes, we see how that turned out, tyvm. I feel like Rodney Dangerfield, no respect.

Anyway, I have grow to love this dog so much and when Bryan moves out, there just may be a fight over him.

I digress. (Really, I just like using that word ... it's thee most overused word by bloggers)

So, Cathleen watched Ben for the first week after his surgery. She also watches a couple little kids. She took the following photos.

I know Pit Bulls get a Bad Rap, especially when the Vick Dogs story came out. I also believe, the breed itself, makes for a great family pet. Remember Petey on The Little Rascals, was a Pit.

Although there are bad breeders, for the most part, I think it's all how they are trained. That goes for any other breed, including kids and what the hell let's throw men in there too! HUSH, you know I'm kidding ... maybe.

So here's Ben the Pit Bull [oh no!] playing with young kids!

Um, I think they intimidated Ben more than he did them!

Quinn, Post-Op

The operation went well. She said he had a really bad tear. It would not have healed, but scarred over and arthritis would set in. He'd never use that leg and the other rear leg, taking all the weight, would eventually give out too.

Here he is, a shaved left front leg where the IV went in. A shaved patch on his left shoulder where a pain patch has been STAPLED to him. Ouch. They said that med is stronger than morphine. His whole left hind quarter and leg is shaved, and she said she stapled the incision shut. I am so glad he hadn't been recently "groomed" ... all that shaving would have ruined his "do."

As long as he doesn't bite at anything, I can keep the "neck cone" off him.

He hasn't bitten a thing, not even food. He is so stoned, he has barely moved. I am thinking of going in for a ruptured cruciate ligament surgery, just for the drugs!

I had to go to work today, the boss is on vacation, so I can't take a day off.

So here is Quinn, at work, stoned and wondering "what did you do to me?"

I brought his meds, food, and water ... but he just turns his head to it all. Maybe he's afraid if he takes anything, it will kill his buzz.
